InfoQuest (March 28, 2019) -- Mr. Somsak Thepsutin, chairman of the Campaign Committee for the Palang Pracharath Party during 2019 Thai general election, noted that the Palang Pracharath Party seems in a hurry to form a new government. He suggested Palang Pracharath Party to continue the process after the Election Commission confirms the election results which will take about one month according to the related provisions of the Constitution of Thailand.
"Some may think that the time is too long, but all related election processes need to be implemented in strict accordance with stipulations. The Election Commission must take the establishment of a new government seriously, and must consider carefully to whether to give yellow cards or red cards to some electoral districts where election complaints mount. Hurried conclusion may bring about poor outcomes. What we need to do now is to wait patiently. Moreover, the new government must be formed in strict accordance with established processes," said Mr. Somsak.
Pheu Thai Party's announcement to form a seven-party coalition government with 255 MPs is regarded as a competitive tactic to form a new government, and a characteristic of this period. However, the result is less than satisfactory. There are two reasons. The first is the formation of a seven-party coalition government gets the support of less than 250 MPs; the second is the Election Commission has not confirmed the voting results of all members yet, which poses a harder task on the Palang Pracharath Party and urges the party to step up its work.
Mr. Somsak denied that the Palang Pracharath Party hopes to get all positions of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and also expressed that it is still too early to discuss the parliamentary seats or the positions of any other departments. The ruling National Council for Peace and Order might set up only one economic team for supervision work. If the Palang Pracharath Party successfully forms a new government, however, a large number of members undoubtedly come from alliances and political parties, whose abilities, professions and aspirations must accord with the policies of the Palang Pracharath Party and their alliances or political parties.
