BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Openness, cooperation and global standardization are keys to 5G era, said Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology on Thursday at sub-forum of Boao Forum for Asia 2019 themed on “5G: Bring Things to Life with the IoT”.
According to Miao, there were three standards in 3G era, two standards in 4G era and only one standard in 5G era. During the standard setting process, not only China, but also industry and research department of other countries made contributions.
From the perspective of the number of patents required by the standard, China might have certain advantages, with the number of Chinese patents registered in Europe accounting for about 30 percent of the total, but there were still 70 percent of the standard patents in the hands of other countries, companies and research institutions.
