The rate of inflation in Germany grew more slowly in March than in the previous two months, with consumer prices up 1.3 per cent compared to March 2018.
The provisional data released by the Federal Statistical Office on Thursday also showed that consumer prices were expected to rise by 0.4 per cent from February.
The rate of inflation rose by 1.5 per cent in February and 1.4 per cent in January year-on-year, remaining well under the European Central Bank's target.
The European Central Bank has set a target for annual inflation under 2 per cent for the eurozone as this ensures stable economic development, being sufficiently above zero without being too high.
Consumers in Germany, Europe's largest economy, had to pay significantly more for energy in March, with prices 4.5 per cent higher than in the same month last year.
