Tongwei solar (Hefei) company inked a deal with Chengdu Shuangliu District Government on the 4GW high-efficiency crystalline cell project on January 22.
The project, for which investment is estimated at 5 billion yuan, includes the construction of second phase of 2GW and third phase of 2GW high-efficiency crystalline cell production capacity in Shuangliu District of Chengdu city in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
The second phase, planned to kick off construction before February, is expected to be completed and put into service before the end of 2017, while investment and construction schedule for the third phase would depend on market demand.
Upon completion, Tongwei’s solar cell production capacity is to reach 7.3GW, adding business income of approximately 7 billion yuan annually.
Tongwei solar (Hefei) company operated at full capacity in 2016, with technical indicators such as solar cell conversion efficiency, product grade-A ratio, cell-to-module (CTM) loss, and fragmentation rate all reached industry leading level and capacity utilization rate reaching 119 percent in the year, said Liu Hanyuan, chairman of Tongwei Group.
Construction on the first phase of the solar project in the Shuangliu District started in November of 2015 with the first “made-in-Chengdu” solar cell coming off the production line in June of 2016, Liu said.
