Demand for German machinery remained stable year-on-year for November after a rise in foreign orders balanced out a decline in domestic orders, the Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA) said on Wednesday.
Foreign orders in November rose by 2 percent compared to the same month in 2017, but the rise was negated in real terms by the 3-percent drop in domestic orders, the association reported.
"It is apparently becoming increasingly difficult for companies to top the already high order intake figures of the previous year," said VDMA chief economist Ralph Wiechers.
The report stated that orders from the eurozone increased by 1 percent in November, while orders from non-eurozone countries rose by 3 percent.
A three-month comparison of orders levels for the September-November period in 2017 and 2018 showed a 4-percent increase for both foreign and domestic orders.
