BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tourists to the Philippines reached 1.06 million from January to October, up 30.7 percent year on year, a recent report by a local newspaper cited Secretary of the Department of Tourism Bernadette Romulo-Puyat as saying.
The Republic of Korea (ROK) remains its largest source of tourists, followed by China, the United States and Japan. Visitors from the ROK to the Philippines reached 1.3 million, accounting for 22 percent of the country's total number of foreign tourists, while those from China, the United States and Japan accounted for 18 percent, 14 percent and 9 percent of the total, respectively.
It is said that the closure of Boracay for six months has affected the total number of inbound tourists this year, meaning that the Philippines may fail to achieve the target of attracting 7.4 million foreign tourists. However, thanks to the increased Chinese tourists, foreign tourist to the country is likely to reach 7 million or 7.2 million this year. (Edited by Li Wenxin, liwenxin@xinhua.org)
