The number of human-like robots put to use for customer service will increase, the German machinery industry predicts.
"It is coming," says Patrick Schwarzkopf, managing director of the robotics and automation division of the German machinery association VDMA. "I believe that humanoid robots that move around on wheels are close to being ready for the market."
Intelligent robots with a human-like figure can be put to good use in answering simple questions such as about certain products. "In the next five year many people will have seen a robot," Schwarzkopf said.
At the moment there are only a few companies where a robot is a firm component of their service concept. Among them are the savings banks of Bremen and Munich. Both use the model "Pepper" of the Japanese company SoftBank Robotics to provide information to customers.
