BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will issue 5G system frequency licenses within the year, which will open a round of 5G investment, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported on Monday.
At present, China has only planned 5G spectrum and not yet allocated it to the three major operators including China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom.
After the 5G spectrum usage plan is clear, the investment enthusiasm of operators will increase, said industry insiders.
According to research reports of the domestic brokers, China is expected to put the 5G into service on a trial basis in 2019 and officially roll out it for commercial purposes in 2020. The large-scale capital expenditure will appear after 2020.
China Securities estimated that the Chinese operators' 5G investment is expected to be 1.23 trillion yuan, a 68-percent increase over the 4G investment. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
