The German state of Bavaria has opened its own centre for artificial intelligence (AI), where researchers will study AI techniques and develop software solutions.
"In the age of digitalisation and increasing interconnectedness of people, machines and processes, data is becoming an ever more important resource," said Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs Franz Josef Pschierer (CSU), who inaugurated the new centre in the city of Munich on Tuesday.
"Artificial intelligence is evolving into a key technology here, to help derive from the large existing amount of data the knowledge that is needed for increased efficiency, innovative business models and new products," he added.
Up to 70 researchers and industry and administrative partners will work in the new centre.
They will research?reliable and safe AI methods and develop software solutions:?decision and control systems such as self-learning software for autonomous vehicles and service drones; cloud-controlled manufacturing facilities; energy and supply infrastructure; or digital services for public authorities.
Pschierer wants to invest 20 million euros in the development of the centre and thereby boost the cooperation possibilities between the economic and scientific worlds.
"Our goal is technological leadership when it comes to artificial intelligence," he said.
