TIANJIN, Sept.20 (Xinhua) -- North China's Tianjin has given full play to its unique advantages in port, industries, opening-up, and education resources amid the construction of the Belt and Road, according to Sun Wenkui, deputy mayor of Tianjin Municipal Government at a sub-forum of the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2018, known as Summer Davos, on Wednesday.
Tianjin Port is one of the ports with comprehensive functions and also the core area of the international shipping lines in the north China. At present, Tianjin Port has trade relations with more than 500 ports in more than 180 countries, said Sun.
He said that Tianjin will further enhance the entire business environment and service environment of the port by improving shipping service, enhancing operation efficiency, reducing fees and promoting customs clearance efficiency.
It is necessary to greatly improve the comprehensive customs clearance efficiency of Tianjin Port and bring it to the first-class level. Intelligent devices will be introduced in the port to facilitate construction of the Belt and Road.
It is worth noting that Tianjin is a research and development transformation base for advanced manufacturing, and also an old industrial base with an integrated industrial system, according to Sun.
At present, on the one hand, Tianjin is upgrading the traditional industry. On the other hand, it is developing the bio-medicine, artificial intelligence, new materials, and new energy industries vigorously.
In the first half of this year, Tianjin's investment along the Belt and Road routes was about 100 million U.S. dollars, and its foreign trade volume with the countries and regions along the routes reached 100 billion yuan (about 14.6 billion U.S. dollars), said Sun.
Meanwhile, Tianjin will create an upgraded version of the free trade zone, and promote high quality development of its Binhai New Area. It will greatly improve investment and trade facilitation, deepen the cross-border renminbi payment, reform the foreign exchange management system, and accelerate the construction of the cross-border e-commerce complex.
In addition, Tianjin will give play to its advantages in the educational resources, especially the vocational education.
