The German Confederation of Trade Unions (DGB) is calling for significantly more investment in training to make sure workers are prepared for the digitalization of the workplace. "The consequences will only be accepted and tolerated by people, whether as employees or consumers, if the technology serves the mand not the other way around," the head of the DGB, Reiner Hoffmann, told "Die Welt" newspaper.
Education and further training would therefore become even more important than before. "Ultimately, there needs to be much more investmen there," Hoffmann warned.
The DGB president was reacting to a study by the World Economic Forum (WEF), which found that only 46 percent of employees in Germany are prepared for the digitalization of work processes. As early as 2025, machines are likely to do more work than people. Today, the share is still only 29 percent, according to the report.
