The German bus company Flixbus is to add two long-distance train routes to its services, doubling its rail offerings, the company announced Tuesday.
From June 21, "Flixtrain" will operate two journeys between the capital Berlin and the south-west German city of Stuttgart each day. Another daily journey route, between western Cologne and northern Hamburg is to be added beginning July 19.
"Three months after its introduction, the response to Flixtrain is overwhelming," Flixbus boss Andre Schwaemmlein said earlier this week, adding that he believed they could easily surpass their target of 500,000 passengers by the end of the year.
Flixbus is the only competitor besides Germany's main train operator Deutsche Bahn that has long distance rail services. Both companies vie for passengers with cheap tickets.
Deutsche Bahn saw 143 million passengers use its long-distance rail services last year.
