The Chinese electric-car startup Byton led by former BMW manufacturers has unveiled a sedan as its second model. The vehicle should arrive on the market in 2021 and will be designed for autonomous driving, announced Byton CEO Carsten Breitfeld in Shanghai Tuesday.
Byton presented its first car in January, an SUV that will initially come onto the market in China at the end of 2019. A hallmark of both models is a large display screen on the dashboard that nearly stretches across the entire width of the vehicle. Byton also disclosed it received a cash injection of $500 million from investors.
Byton’s plan is to arrive at an annual production of 250,000 to 300,000 vehicles per year relatively quickly. Byton wants to achieve this with a model range of three vehicle types: In 2022, a minivan with 7 seats should also come along.
