    Qinghai Province is in the northeastern part of the Qinghai Plateau of Western China. To the east and north is Gansu province and to the southeast is Sichuan Province and to the southwest is Tibet, and to the north is the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. In 2015, the province signed 8 contracts for using 160 million U.S. dollars of foreign capital, 49.8 percent more than in the previous year. The actual amount of FDI used was 55 million U.S. dollars, 9.8 percent more than in the previous year. The amount of contracting for foreign projects was 849 million U.S. dollars, growing 192 percent. The business turnover from contracting for foreign projects was 292 million U.S. dollars, dropping by 14 percent. The fixed assets investment by Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and foreign businesses was 1.868 billion yuan, growing -34.8 percent.

    Qinghai Province lies in the northeast of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau with an area of 722,300 square kilometers. Situated 89°35′-103°04′ east longitude and 31°9′-39°19′ north latitude, it got its name from a lake called Qinghai Lake, which is the biggest inland saltwater lake in China. <br></br> Flanked by two big mountain ranges – Qilian in the north, Tanggula in the south, 4/5 of this highland averages 3,000 meters above sea level. In its middle, stands another big mountain spur – the Kunlun. About 95% of the province’s land is pastureland. Two major Chinese waters, the Yangtze and the Yellow Rivers all originate here: one from the southwest slop of the main peak of Tanggula; one from northern slope of Bayanhar. This feature has earned the province a name as the source of the rivers. <br></br> Qinghai is the divide between farming area and pastoral area and contains three kinds of climate patterns, namely continental monsoon climate, inland arid climate and Qinghai-Tibet plateau climate. The average temperature for a year is from –5.6° C to 8.6° C. <br></br> Qinghai Province has two prefecture-level cities, six autonomous prefectures, three county-level cities, 27 counties and seven autonomous counties. Xining is the capital city of the province. <br></br> Qinghai had a total resident population of 5.88 million by the end of 2015, of which urban population was 2.96 million while rural population was 2.92 million, representing 50.3 % and 49.7% of the total, respectively. The minority population was 2.8 million at the end of 2015, accounting for 47.71% of the total.
