Companies are finding it harder and harder to find qualified employees due to a growing scarcity of skilled workers.
In order to cushion this resource bottleneck, they are increasingly relying on continuous professional development. This is one result the study “Training trends in Germany 2018” found in its survey of 300 HR managers, according to a statement.
The study shows in addition that the shortage of skilled labor has reached a new peak: 70 percent of all companies surveyed cannot meet their personnel requirements. In 2011, it was only 55 percent.
Kantar TNS carried out the annual study for the tenth year in a row on behalf of the SGD (Studiengemeinschaft Darmstadt), one of Germany’s largest long-distance learning schools.
The companies surveyed were also in agreement over the question of whether the human resources bottleneck has increased in recent years. While only 39 percent of small firms with between one and nine employees were affected by this bottleneck in 2011, that figure has already grown to 51 percent at present.
For medium-sized firms (between 10 and 499 employees), the percentage affected increased from 70 to 86 percent, while in large firms with over 500 employees it’s risen from 73 to 88 percent.
