BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese automaker BYD has inked the deal to build monorail system in Salvador, Brazil worth 2.5 billion Brazil Reais (about 689 million U.S. dollars), according to Li Ke, senior vice president of BYD.
The company is also discussing with Americas countries including the U.S. on eight monorail deals of which two deals are expected to be confirmed within this year, Li said, citing by a report by Bloomberg Businessweek.
BYD started monorail system business two years ago for reviving profit growth as well as reducing dependence on domestic market.
This would be the first straddle monorail for Salvador and the first cross-sea monorail globally. (Edited by Niu Huizhe, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
