BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- In the first quarter, the national payment system operated steadily, with the scale of social capital transactions continuing to expand and the amount of payment services rising steadily, according to the statistics released by the People's Bank of China (PBOC).
The bank card transaction volume grew faster, statistics showed that in the first quarter, a total of 43.11 billion bankcard transactions occurred nationwide with an amount of 220.82 trillion yuan involved, an increase of 40.23 percent and 12.63 percent year on year, respectively.
The scale of bank card loans continued to expand. As of the end of the first quarter, the total amount of bank card credits was 13.14 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.32 percent over the previous quarter. The bank card outstanding credit balance was 5.80 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.46 percent over the previous quarter.
In addition, mobile payment services have steadily increased. In the first quarter, banking financial institutions processed a total of 39.592 billion electronic payment transactions, with an amount of 746.33 trillion yuan involved.
Among them, the number of the online payment transactions was 12.011 billion, up 7.12 percent year on year, while the amount of these transactions was 635.76 trillion yuan, down 3.49 percent year on year.
The number of the mobile payment transactions was 10.963 billion, an increase of 17.84 percent year on year and the amount of these transactions was 70.82 trillion yuan, up 16.76 percent year on year.
In addition, the telephone payment business saw 44.39 million transactions, up 10.79 percent year on year, while the amount of these transactions was 2.10 trillion yuan, down 10.34 percent year on year. (Edited by Ma Xin, maxin11@xinhua.org)
