BEIJING, May 3 (Xinhua) -- China (including Hong Kong and Macao) ranked first among sources of Myanmar's foreign direct investment (FDI) as of February 28, 2018, and invested 344 projects totaling 24.85 billion U.S. dollars in Myanmar, accounting for 40.14 percent of Myanmar’s FDI, according to the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA).
With the strengthening of political trust and bilateral relations between China and Myanmar and the persistent advancement of the Belt and Road construction, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has developed rapidly and China's investment in Myanmar has accelerated.
According to China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC), the bilateral trade volume between China and Myanmar in 2017 amounted to 13.54 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 10.2 percent year on year. As of the end of 2017, China’s non-financial direct investment in Myanmar amounted to 5.1 billion U.S. dollars. China has remained Myanmar’s largest trading nation.
