BEIJING -- A two-day conference between the heads of several supreme courts from China and European countries concluded in Suzhou, Jiangsu province on May 5.
An eight-point "Suzhou Consensus" was reached at the conference of presidents of the supreme courts of China and central and eastern European countries (CEEC), China Daily reported.
Several heads of top courts, including Zhou Qiang, president of China's Supreme People's Court, agreed to establish and maintain a permanent dialogue between judiciaries of China and the CEEC.
According to the consensus, both China and the CEEC agree that judicial transparency is the basis of judicial fairness and that they will further promote transparency and credibility in the practice of law in accordance with international rules and standards.
The "Belt and Road" initiative, which has brought the ties between China and the CEEC closer, asks for better judicial cooperation, said the consensus.
Improved judicial efficiency and unified judicial standards are the common goals of any country ruled by law, the consensus noted, adding that top courts in China and the CEEC will work to make the judicial rules clear, accurate and predictable.
