New line of China-Russian oil pipeline begins operation -- A second line for the China-Russia oil pipeline began commercial operation on Jan. 1, raising China's annual imports of Russian crude oil from 15 million to 30 million tonnes annually through the pipeline. Construction on the 941.8-km-long second line from Mohe, which borders Russia, to the city of Daqing in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province began in August 2016. The line passes north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The second line was built in parallel to the first line between Mohe and Daqing, said Jiang Changliang, general manager of PetroChina Pipeline Company.
China's largest investment project in Brunei to be completed by 2018 -- Brunei's largest single foreign-invested project in recent years, Zhejiang Hengyi Petrochemical Project on Pulau Muara Besar (PMB), is expected to be completed by the end of 2018, sources from Hengyi said on Jan. 1. The project has now entered full construction phase, and will be officially put into operation in the first quarter of 2019. Located on Brunei's PMB, an isolated island to Brunei's mainland, Hengyi Petrochemical project covers an area of 260 hectares. Under a joint venture agreement, Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd is co-formed by China's Zhejiang Hengyi company and its Bruneian partner, taking 70 percent and 30 percent of the shares respectively.
Chinese-built modern Ethio-Djibouti railway begins commercial operations -- The Chinese-built 756 km electrified rail project connecting landlocked Ethiopia to Djibouti officially started commercial operations on Jan. 1 with a ceremony held in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa. Contracted by two Chinese companies, the first 320 km of the rail project from Sebeta to Mieso was carried out by the China Rail Engineering Corporation (CREC), while the remaining 436 km from Mieso to Djibouti port section was built by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
Chinese firm wins bid to upgrade, maintain national road in Cambodia -- A Chinese construction firm on Dec. 28 won a bid to carry out a road upgrade and maintenance project in Cambodia. Cambodian Transport Minister Sun Chanthol said the ministry awarded the 20-million-U.S.-dollars contract to Guangdong Provincial Changda Highway Engineering Co., Ltd after the firm won a public tender. "Under the contract, the Chinese firm will upgrade and maintain a 107-km section of the National Road No. 7 in eastern part of Cambodia," he said after a contract signing ceremony here, adding that the company would also construct sewer pipes along the road. The firm will take one-and-a-half years to upgrade the road and another three years for the maintenance of the road, the minister said, adding that the project work will start in March 2018.
China's largest solar-window factory in operation -- A Chinese company has built the country's largest factory for producing electricity-generating see-through glass, which can be used to turn a whole building into a solar power generator. Each sheet of the 1.6-meter by 1.2-meter glass, produced by CNBM (Chengdu) Optoelectronic Materials, can generate 260 kilowatt hours of electricity a year, said Jiang Meng, a technology inspector with the company. Based in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, the company's factory began operation in November and has an annual production capacity of glass veneers that can generate 80 megawatts of electricity.
China's high-speed rail tracks to hit 38,000 km by 2025 -- China's high-speed rail tracks will hit 38,000 km by 2025, higher than 25,000 km registered by the end of 2017, the railway operator said. The country's operating high-speed rail tracks accounted for 66.3 percent of the world's total by the end of 2017, said Lu Dongfu, general manager of China Railway Corporation. Its fixed asset investment on railways in 2018 will be 732 billion yuan (about 112 billion U.S. dollars), lower than the annual average during the 2013-2017 period, according to Lu.
Beijing launches testing base for autopilot cars -- Shunyi District of Beijing launched a testing base for autopilot vehicles in the Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. The district government said Dec. 29 that the base was a 7-km road in the park, equipped with intelligent transportation facilities, such as traffic lights and road signs to support the operation of autopilot cars. Tourists in the park can apply to drive in the cars.
Shenyang aviation base attracts new UAV projects -- A total of nine projects involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were agreed on Dec. 26 for Shenyang general aviation industry base. The projects involve the production and sale of UAVs, research centers for aeronautical simulators and powered parachutes, training bases for UAV pilots, and the establishment of platforms for civil and military UAVs. The new projects are expected to speed up the progress of Shenyang general aviation industry base in becoming an industrial cluster for producers and researchers of UAVs.
