BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- With the escalating war for mobile payment in Hong Kong, Tecent’s mobile payment platform WeChat Pay HK announced to launch the upgraded function of direct debit authorization (DDA), according to a report released by Cankaoxiaoxi.com on December 29.
Hong Kong media claimed recently that move would allow users to recharge their WeChat Pay HK accounts through accounts opened in 17 major banks in Hong Kong.
The WeChat Pay HK users can recharge their WeChat Pay HK accounts through 7-Eleven chain stores and the new DDA function directly online from their bank accounts in any of Hong Kong’s 17 banks, according to a report from hdfin.stheadline.com on December 27.
The new upgraded recharging function covers all major banks in Hong Kong including HSBC, Hang Seng Bank, Standard Charted Bank, Bank of East Asia, China Construction Bank, Bank of Communications and Citibank, and users’ options are not restricted by the designated bank accounts, said Tan Lewen, general manager of the international business group of Tecent, adding that in the meantime WeChat Pay HK is working together with merchants in various sectors in Hong Kong to roll out a host of promotions with a maximum of 100 HK dollars real-time discount.
