BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Nanjing, capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province and a pilot city of "Made in China 2025", speeded up crafting itself into an intelligent manufacturing center by continuously optimizing related policies.
When smart factories make production efficiency improve significantly and 3D printing brings customized production closer to people, Nanjing is witnessing a batch of backbone intelligent manufacturers and intelligent manufacturing industry clusters emerging.
In the Pukou factory of Nanjing Automobile (Group) Corporation, a large auto producer in China, intelligent manufacturing has greatly improved its production efficiency.
After inputting information about a client's demand for auto colors, control systems and others, the factory's backend system can provide immediately the best production order. On receiving the order, over one hundred of robotics will start working on producing an auto, with welding robotics, automated guided vehicles (AGV) and spray painting robotics working simultaneously.
"A smart factory can double our production capacity with limited increase of workers. In an hour, 70 automobiles can be produced now," said Chen Jun, head of the information department of Nanjing Automobile (Group) Corporation.
In recent years, 32 workshops of automobile producers in Nanjing were selected as pilot intelligent manufacturers in Jiangsu Province. Six auto firms became national pilot intelligent manufacturers. All of these represented an upgrading towards satisfying individualized demand.
Small changes are creating a big transformation for Nanjing's smart manufacturing. At present, a batch of old heavy industry enterprises such as Nanjing Automobile (Group) Corporation and CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co., Ltd. accelerate their paces towards smart manufacturing by transforming production procedures and techniques.
Nowadays, smart manufacturing becomes the major goal of Nanjing in developing advanced manufacturing sector.
With sales income hitting 31.7 billion yuan in 2016, up 15 percent year on year, the basic software and industrial software sector in Nanjing has already formed a software product system capable of supporting the development of intelligent manufacturing industry.
Apart from these, such policies as Nanjing intelligent manufacturing city construction plan have been promulgated and a 50 billion yuan emerging industry development fund has been founded to further high-end and intelligent industries.
Currently, the city is working on cultivating intelligent industry clusters and advanced intelligent manufacturing demonstration zones.
Starting from manufacturing in the past, Nanjing was set to rely on manufacturing to win its future, said a local official in Nanjing, adding that the city planned to improve prime operating revenue of advanced manufacturers to 1.5 trillion yuan by 2020.
