BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- China will step up formulating a system of standards on green manufacturing and promote the upgrading of traditional manufacturing, an official said Friday.
Accelerating green industrial transformation is a requirement for building a beautiful China, Gao Yunhu, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said at the annual conference for green design and manufacturing of Chinese industrial products.
China aims to develop around 300 standards on the key areas of green manufacturing by 2020, and basically build a system of standards on industrial energy-saving and green manufacturing, according to Gao.
Progress has been made in China's industrial growth, however, increasing energy-consumption has also posed huge pressure on environmental protection, Gao said.
In the next stage, China will make more efforts to develop green standards for factories, products, parks and supply chains.
China's energy use efficiency in the steel industry was around 6 percent lower than the advanced international level and about 10 percent lower in the construction materials sector, while the waste water volume in the domestic textile sector was two to three times higher, according to a report released at the conference.
To promote green manufacturing, China needs to forge an industrial structure which features higher level technology, lower resources use and less pollution, Gao said.
