Bangladesh approves China-funded elevated expressway project -- Bangladesh's highest economic policy-making body has approved a China-funded elevated expressway project.
The project was approved at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on October 24.
After the ECNEC meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told reporters that the project, involving an estimated cost of 169.01 billion taka (2 billion U.S. dollars), was approved in a bid to enable quick entry and exit of vehicles to and from Dhaka and facilitate transit trade with regional countries.
Chinese carmaker to build monorail in Egypt -- China's leading new-energy carmaker BYD announced on October 24 that it would build a monorail transit system in Egypt, the company's second overseas monorail order.
The Shenzhen-based company has recently signed an agreement with the government of Alexandria, a coastal city in Egypt, to build a 128-kilometer monorail, the company said.
CHEC to complete Brunei’s Pulau Muara Besar Bridge by next April -- The Pulau Muara Besar Bridge in Brunei, undertaken by China Harbour Engineering Co., Ltd. (CHEC) is expected to finish construction and open to traffic by early April 2018, said Dong Yan, CHEC Brunei Managing Director, in a interview with 21st Century Business Herald.
Pulau Muara Besar Bridge is an important bridge linking Brunei-Muara District in western Brunei and Pulau Muara Besar in eastern Brunei. With a total contract value of 260 million Singapore dollars, the bridge will be Brunei’s first cross-sea bridge.
Pakistan coal power plant signs loan contract with Chinese banks -- A joint China-Pakistan coal-fired power plant signed a loan contract with banks in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Hubco Coal Power Plant raised 1.5 billion U.S. dollars from a consortium of banks led by China Development Bank.
Construction of the power plant, costing about 2 billion U.S. dollars, began in March by China Power Hub Generation Company, a joint venture between Pakistan's Hub Power Holdings Ltd. and China Power International Investment Ltd.
Belarusian power plant reconstructed by CMEC goes into operation -- Belarusian Gomel-1 Power Plant, an EPC project undertaken by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), has started operations after upgrade and renovation. The power plant’s generating capacity has been improved while its energy consumption has reduced.
The upgrading project involved the construction of a 35MW steam-gas power plant, including design, goods supply, construction and installation, commissioning, testing and quality assurance.
China-Vietnam border trade zone opens -- A new China-Vietnam cross-border trade zone in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has opened, local authorities said on October 23.
The Longbang-Tra Linh trade zone in the border city of Jingxi covers an area of 50,000 square meters and involves investment of 60 billion yuan (9 billion U.S. dollars).
Construction began in 2013 and trial operation in September this year.
BYD bags mass transit order in Egypt -- Electric vehicle maker BYD Co Ltd is planning to start trial runs of its SkyRail monorail mass transit solution in Egypt soon, making it the second overseas destination for the Chinese company after the Philippines.

First Chinese electric locomotive runs in Serbia -- China's first domestically produced electric locomotive began operating in Serbia, the Chinese manufacturer, announced CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive.
The locomotive will serve the busiest freight transport route on the Balkan Peninsula
With a maximum speed of 140 km per hour and a rated power of 7,000 kw, the locomotive is able to haul 4,500 tonnes of cargo.
China's Hainan Airlines launches direct flight from Shanghai to Brussels -- China's carrier Hainan Airlines on October 26 launched its first non-stop flight between Shanghai and Brussels.
Official data shows that over 120 million Chinese tourists travel abroad each year. And with this additional direct flight, more Chinese tourists will choose Belgium as their starting point for a tour in Europe, it is hoped.
