BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua)-- Didi Chuxing, China’s leading on-demand mobility platform, announced that it had recently established a strategic partnership with Careem, the largest ride-sharing platform in the Middle East and North Africa.
Didi Chuxing will make investments into Careem and both parties will cooperate in terms of intelligent transportation technology, product development and operation. The specific investment amount has not been disclosed yet.
The Middle East and North Africa were characterized by rapid growth of urban population and increasingly diversified economic and social structure, which brought about enormous room for the development of the car-sharing industry, Hong Kong Economic Journal quoted Cheng Wei, founder and CEO of Didi Chuxing, as saying on August 8.
Careem was a market leader in the Middle East and North Africa, said Cheng, adding that this cooperation was expected to impel the development of the Middle Eastern transportation industry and exploit the potential of regional Internet economy.
Founded in Dubai in July 2012, Careem covers more than 80 cities in 13 countries, namely Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine. It boasts about 250,000 drivers and more than 12 million users.
At present, Didi’s cross-border cooperation network benefits over 60 percent of the global population in more than 1,000 cities across North America, Southeast Asia, South Asia and South America. The partnership with Careem marks its first foray in the Middle Eastern and North African markets. Didi Chuxing will continuously undertake its grand mission to launch the global industrial revolution.
