SHENZHEN, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) - China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) has officially started construction on an offshore small experimental nuclear reactor ACPR50S upon its purchase agreement of pressure vessel with Dongfang Electric Co., Ltd inked on November 4.
The small pressurized water reactor-based offshore nuclear power plant is considered as a key route to provide stable energy supply in coastal, open sea and island reef areas of China. ACPR50S, a comprehensive nuclear energy supply system with efficient and stable energy supply and high security is becoming a top choice to settle offshore energy problems and a key technology reserve of offshore nuclear power, said Huang Xiaofei, spokesman of CGNPC.
To promote construction of smart nuclear power projects, CGNPC and Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Group lately inked a framework agreement on jointly promoting smart nuclear power development. (Edited by Li Xiaohui, lixh@xinhua.org)
