Sudan plans to prevent crude minerals export

July 10, 2017

Abstract : Sudan announced on Sunday plans to prevent exportation of crude minerals, said Sudan's minerals ministry.

KHARTOUM, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Sudan announced on Sunday plans to prevent exportation of crude minerals, said Sudan's minerals ministry.

The Minerals Minister Hashim Ali Salim made the remarks when he met with local investors in mineral field.

One of the main directives of the new government is to prevent exportation of crude materials for all Sudanese products whether in the agricultural, animal resources or minerals fields," he said.

The policy is aiming at encouraging investors to process those materials, as "exporting them will not develop the country," he added.

The Sudanese official highlighted importance of developing the minerals industry, especially iron, noting that "it is not acceptable for factories to operate in scrap metal recycling at a time when iron ore is available in Sudan."

Sudan is seeking to increase its minerals production, namely gold, to compensate the loss of around 75 percent of its oil revenues following the separation of South Sudan in 2011. Enditem
