PHNOM PENH, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The Dubai-based carrier Emirates touched down at Phnom Penh International Airport on Saturday night, marking its start of daily flights between Dubai and Phnom Penh.
The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was welcomed by a traditional water salute upon its arrival at 9:25 p.m. local time.
The airline's flight to Cambodia is part of its daily service to Myanmar. The airline departed Dubai in the morning and arrived in Yangon, Myanmar in late afternoon, and then it left Yangon for Phnom Penh after a 90-minute stopover.
On the return segment, the plane will depart Phnom Penh at night and arrive in Dubai early in the morning next day after a short stop in Yangon, according to its press release.
Phnom Penh is the most populous city in Cambodia and is a gateway to the Angkor archeological park, a world heritage site, in northwestern Siem Reap province.
"The new Dubai-Yangon-Phnom Penh route will also enable passengers from Yangon to travel to Phnom Penh and vice versa," the press release said. "Emirates will be the only airline with a direct service between these two cities." Enditem
