TEHRAN, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The Russian oil and gas company Tatneft has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National Iranian South Oilfields Company (NISOC) for carrying oilfield development studies in southwestern Iran, Tehran Times daily reported on Tuesday.
The MoU envisages preliminary studies on Shadegan oilfield in Khuzestan province and the company is to hand over the results and its proposal to Iran in six months, the report said.
"The MoU is under the framework of NISOC contracts and hopefully we will sign two other MoUs within this framework in the upcoming weeks," Hamid Deris, the NISOC director for technical affairs, said in the signing ceremony.
Deris did not say which companies are the two candidates for signing similar contracts.
The Russian side expressed satisfaction with the agreement, saying that "we hope the cooperation between the two sides will be enhanced further in the future."
According to Gholamreza Manouchehri, the deputy director of National Iranian Oil Company for development and engineering affairs, Iran has received 25 Management Development Programs (MDP) for the development of its oilfields from foreign companies since the international sanctions against Iran were lifted in January 2016.
