The Province of South Holland has awarded a 530-million-U.S. dollar road building contract to a consortium made up of two subsidiaries of Dutch contractor TBI Infra, Vinci Grands Projets and Deme Infra Marine Contractors, which is based in Belgium.

The job involves the construction of the first part of the Rijnland Route, which will connect the town of Katwijk to the A4 at Leiden.

The consortium, which is called Comol5, will be responsible for the reconstruction of the Leiden West motorway junction, the construction of 4km of new road, and a 2.2km tunnel.

It will also implement 12km of motorway widening and adaptations to the A4 and A44.

The route aims to improve the accessibility and traffic flow in the region and stimulate economic growth. Construction is expected to take six years, with 15 years of maintenance thereafter.

Ownership of the consortium is split equally, with TBI Infra companies Mobilis and Croonwolter&dro taking 25 percent each, Vince holding 25 percent and Deme owning 25 percent.
