SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Corporation (SEPCOIII) kicked off low-voltage (LV) cable laying for Saudi Al-Zulfi substation’s control building on Jan. 11.
Al-Zulfi substation is an EPC contract of SEPCOIII signed with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) on November 23, 2015, with contract value at 105 million U.S. dollars.
Located in Al-Zulfi in central Saudi Arabia, the project includes constructing one 380kV gas insulated station (GIS), a 132kV GIS, 33kV distribution facilities as well as related step-down transformers, auxiliary transformers, and 400V distribution facilities.
Al-Zulfi substation has all kinds of cables of more than 750km. The LV cable laying on Jan. 11 refers to laying of low voltage cables between the control building and the 380kV GIS.
Upon completion after a 29-month long construction period, the Al-Zulfi substation is likely to help ease operating pressures on Saudi Arabia’s existing power grid, improve power transmission efficiency and quality, and satisfy the increasing power demand in east Saudi Arabia.
