GUANGZHOU, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) announced recently that construction of the No. 4 unit of its Fangchenggang nuclear power station commenced on Dec. 23.
This is the first nuclear power station unit to start construction in China during the 13th Five-Year (2016-2020) Plan period that adopts Hualong One technology -- China's third-generation nuclear reactor design.
As China's largest nuclear power operator, CGN currently has 19 nuclear power units in operation with a total installed capacity of 20.384 million kw and nine units under construction with combined capacity of 11.356 million kw.
Located in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Fangchenggang nuclear power station is a demonstrative project for CGN's Hualong One technology, China's nuclear technology of choice for export.
According to the company, the phase II of the Fangchenggang nuclear power station would be the reference plant for Bradwell B, a British nuclear power project invested by CGN in collaboration with French energy company EDF that will also use the Hualong One design.
