TALLINN, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The energy and transport ministers of the EU members Wednesday addressed the operation of a unified European electricity market, common challenges and solutions, and future of EU finances.
Coordinated efforts to reduce CO2 emissions, diversify energy production, and introduce new digital technologies, as well as innovation to increase action are needed to contain climate change, according to Estonian Minister for Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Kadri Simson.
At the energy ministers press conference, Maros Sefcovic, vice-president of the European Commission, stressed the role of efficient energy and renewables to transform economy and future energy market.
European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Canete highlighted the European clean energy package to integrate all elements to ensure the security of the energy market.
Ando Leppiman,deputy secretary general for energy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure, said that Estonia's leading role and model in developing and deploying energy-related e-solutions was recognized by some of the EU members.
The informal meeting of energy and transport ministers of EU members on Wednesday and Thursday tackles on the current implementation of the Connecting Europe Facility instrument with an aim to deliver the Energy Union and the Single European Transport Area.
