CHONGQING, Dec.27 (Xinhua) -- The first batch of fresh beef imported from Australia arrived at Chongqing via the mixed “sea-river” route on December 22.
The ship carrying 13 metric tons of containers of fresh beefs left Brisbane, largest harbor in Australia, transferring at Shanghai to a river streamer and further traveling to destination in Chongqing.
Gu Yi, chairman of domestic famous beef importer YIBEEF said that the mixed “sea-river” route took less than a month of time, and shaved logistics costs by 50 percent compared with air freight.
Luo Shiping, director with Foreign Trade Administration Division in Chongqing Commerce Commission said in the past, it takes more than 50 days to carry products from Australia to Chongqing via the transport mode of “sea-river “route, because of limited shipping capacity of Three Gorges, as well as complex inspection process through the Customs. However, since September, the use of Three Gorges ship lift has further improved navigation capacity of ships when passing throgh the dam of the Three Gorges Project, and provided convenience for imported agricultural products being transported to China’s inland provinces via “sea-river” route.
Meanwhile, the regulators are jointly promoting the inspection mechanism to shorten the process for trade and shave the time costs of carrying imported cargo. Enditem (Edited by Ma Xin, maxin11@xinhua.org)
