AMMAN, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury on Tuesday said that a number of U.S. leading companies are keen on benefiting from investment opportunities in Jordan.
The remarks came as part of Fakhoury's speech during the inauguration of the Jordanian-U.S. Business Forum which Prime Minister Hani Mulki deputizes for, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said in a statement.
Fakhoury said that the forum aims at networking among bilateral companies of common interest, providing major U.S. companies with comprehensive information on the business environment and opportunities in Jordan, and enhancing communication with senior officials in the Jordanian government and private sector.
He stressed that the Jordan-U.S. partnership is a significant and a vital one, including the U.S. support to the kingdom, the free trade accord, and economic cooperation.
The minister noted that the U.S. companies seek to identify new investment opportunities in the Kingdom and to choose Jordan as a base in the reconstruction process of countries in the region, as well as a gateway to all opportunities of reconstruction in the region.
The minister briefed the representatives of the companies on the investment opportunities in the Kingdom and on the national strategy represented by the Jordan document 2025, in addition to the Jordanian government's efforts to maintain the overall economic and financial stability which is the main pillar of development and investment being implemented in the Kingdom.
Fakhoury outlined Jordan's newly launched economic growth plan for 2018-2022, which includes all the basic reforms in improving business and investment environment, important structural reforms and the output of national strategies in key sectors such as human resource development, water, irrigation, energy, employment, digital transformation and others.
The minister noted that U.S. companies were briefed on the Jordanian economic growth stimulation plan of the capital expenditure projects and the major infrastructure projects that the government will implement under a public-private partnership framework.
He said Jordan is committed to openness and is keen to attract international investments in the implementation of infrastructure projects that enhance Jordan's pivotal geopolitical role in the Middle East and North Africa.
Fakhoury noted the existence of a comprehensive national government plan to support Jordan's competitiveness in global indicators by assessing the country's competitiveness in various sectors and improving its performance according to clear indicators.
