BERLIN, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Germany's inflation rate fell back in May, the Federal Statistical office's (Destatis) data showed on Wednesday.
According to Destatis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 1.5 percent in May year-on-year, after a 2.0 percent increase in April.
Month-on-month, the CPI in May decreased by 0.2 percent.
In May, the impact of energy prices development on the inflation rate diminished markedly.
Energy prices rose 2.0 percent compared with the same month 2016, after a 5.1 percent growth each in the previous two month.
Compared to April, energy prices declined by 1.4 percent.
Food prices rose 2.4 percent year-on-year, and remained unchanged month-on-month.
Excluding the volatile food and energy prices, Germany's CPI in May rose 1.3 percent from May 2016, and added 0.1 percent from April. Enditem
