ROME, April 4 (Xinhua) -- The purchasing power of Italian households rose by 1.6 percent in 2016, the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) said on Tuesday.
The figure marked the highest increase since 2001. Household final consumption expenditure also rose by 1.3 percent last year, and disposable income by 1.6 percent.
The country's budget deficit was 2.4 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2016, ISTAT confirmed. The deficit figure had been firstly released on March 1.
With respect to the fourth quarter of 2016, the deficit-to-GDP ratio remained unchanged at 2.3 percent compared to the same quarter of 2015, the agency also stated on Tuesday.
