NAIROBI, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's electricity generation has peaked at 856 million KWh a month, boosted by increased production from geothermal, thermal and hydro sources as consumption too rises.
Monthly power generation has been on the rise since the year began and averaged 820 million KWh on a monthly basis.
According to new data from Kenya Power Thursday, production hit its peak at 856 million KWh in October, the highest ever in the history of the country.
During the month, hydro generation contributed 356.88 million KWh, while geothermal 363.93 million KWh and thermal 135.21 million KWh.
And as power production rises, consumption has similarly increased significantly. In October, the data showed that consumption stood at 735 million KWh.
The East African nation currently has some 5 million homes connected to electricity, up from about half the number some two years ago.
