China-Myanmar natural gas plant to go into operation in 2018 -- A combined-cycle natural gas plant project, jointly undertaken by China's Union Resources & Engineering Co., Ltd. (UREC) and Myanmar's Ministry of Electricity and Energy (MOEE), is scheduled to go into operation in the first quarter of 2018, according to the report of local media in Myanmar. In this regard, the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding in January 2013, entered into a contract in November 2014, and obtained the license for operation in January 2016.
Privately-funded Chinese hospital breaks ground in Ethiopian capital -- A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Sept. 12 in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa for the construction of a privately funded Chinese hospital.
The hospital, dubbed Addis Ababa Silk Road General Hospital, will be built in two phases and have 600 beds, including 40 ICU beds, when construction is completed, with a total investment of about 30 million U.S. dollars from Seychelles Afei Holding Co., Ltd.
Freight air route links east China, U.S. -- A cargo plane will leave Hangzhou, Zhejiang, for Chicago early Sept 13, marking the first direct freight air route between the eastern Chinese city and the United States. According to Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, the freight air route is operated by Hong Kong Airlines Cargo, using planes of Atlas Air Inc.
Bolivia signs deal with Chinese firm to build hydroelectric plant -- Bolivia's state electricity company, ENDE, signed on Sept. 11 a contract with Chinese firm Sinohydro to build the Ivirizu hydroelectric dam. In a ceremony in the department of Cochabamba, attended by President Evo Morales, the contract was signed, allowing Sinohydro to build the dam itself with an investment of 172 million U.S. dollars.
China invests heavily in Xianjiang power grid -- The State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) will invest 82.6 billion yuan (12.8 billion U.S. dollars) to improve the power grid in the northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region. According to an agreement signed by the SGCC and the regional government on Sept. 8, power transmission projects featuring extra-high voltage will be built to lift Xinjiang's outbound power transmitting capacity to 25 million kilowatts by the end of 2020.
Albania seeks EU, U.S. support for IAP gas pipeline project -- The Albanian government is working to realize the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline gas project, saying on Sept. 8 it was seeking the support of European Union(EU) and United States to take the project forward. IAP is a proposed natural gas pipeline in southeastern Europe that will stretch from Fier in central Albania, through Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, to Split, Croatia. It will then be connected with the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) which is currently being constructed in Albania, Greece and Italy in order to bring gas from Azerbaijan to Europe.
Airline announces first direct flights from southwest China to New York -- China's Hainan Airlines will operate direct flights to New York from the southwestern cities of Chongqing and Chengdu, according to the airline. The Chongqing-New York route, scheduled to launch on Oct. 20, will be the first direct connection between China's southwest and New York.
