China cracks down on distribution of illegal publications -- China has launched a crackdown on websites, online stores, mobile applications and social media that distributes pirated or illegal publications. The campaign involves a severe crackdown on actions of distributing illegal films and videos via online disks, applications, WeChat and Weibo messaging applications, and forums, as well as unauthorized transmission of news items via websites, mobile applications and official accounts on WeChat.
China's central bank stresses neutral monetary policy, financial regulation -- China's central bank said on July 25 it would continue to implement a prudent and neutral monetary policy and step up financial regulation to prevent systemic risks. The People's Bank of China (PBOC) will maintain moderate credit growth and basically stable liquidity to provide a suitable monetary environment for the supply-side structural reform, according to a PBOC statement released after a meeting attended by heads of PBOC branches. Transactions on financial markets will be strictly regulated, while oversight on Internet finance will be strengthened, the statement said.
China to reform state assets management system -- China will make its state assets management system more flexible and balanced, the country's state assets supervising authority said on July 24. Authorities will continue to improve the existing state assets management system with a view to preserving and increasing the assets value, according to a statement on the website of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC). Efforts will be made to unleash the vitality of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and while safeguarding state asset security, said the statement
China solicits public opinion on express delivery service regulation -- China has started to solicit public opinion on a provisional regulation on express delivery services, the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council announced on July 24. The regulation said that courier companies should establish management systems for waybills and electronic data, regularly destroy waybills, and are prohibited from selling, leaking or illegally providing customers' personal information. Those who violate these rules will face a fine of up to 100,000 yuan (about 14,830 U.S. dollars) and have their license revoked, according to the regulation.
China establishes green manufacturing alliance -- A green manufacturing alliance was inaugurated on July 22 to better support the country's green and sustainable development, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Led by the ministry, members of the Green Manufacturing Association of China (GMAC) are from China's leading scientific research institutions and manufacturing enterprises, covering such industries as iron and steel, building material, energy, textile and finance. More than 400 representatives from multinational enterprises, international institutions and foreign embassies attended the inauguration ceremony.
China releases Yangzte environmental protection plan -- The Chinese government has released an environmental protection plan covering the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the latest move to protect the country's longest river from pollution. The plan was jointly released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Water Resources. An ecological "red line" will be put in place to protect and restore the environment of key areas, said Zhao Yingmin, vice minister of environmental protection.
China moves to boost home rental market in large, medium cities -- China is pushing development of the home rental market in large and medium cities to address rising rental demand from urban newcomers. Measures will be taken in cities with net population inflows, including increasing rental housing supplies and setting up a government-backed home rental service platform, according to a notice issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and other government departments.
China stresses work safety, flood control -- Chinese officials urged increased efforts in work safety supervision and the prevention of floods during rainy season. China will continue to carry out nationwide inspections on workplace safety to prevent major accidents, according to a video and telephone conference held by the Work Safety Committee of the State Council.
China maps out AI development plan -- The State Council, China's cabinet, has issued a plan for artificial intelligence (AI) development, setting the target of China becoming a major center for AI innovation and leading the world in AI technology and applications by 2030. The plan said China firstly aims to keep pace with the leading countries in AI technology and applications in general by 2020. The AI industry will serve as a new major economic growth engine and help improve people's lives by that time, and then the country will look to major breakthroughs in AI theoretical research and progress in intelligent society building by 2025.
China announces import ban on 24 types of solid waste -- China will ban imports of 24 types of solid waste by the end of 2017 in a fresh move to reduce environmental pollution, an official said on July 20. China has notified the World Trade Organization of the ban, which covers waste plastics, unsorted scrap paper, discarded textiles, vanadium slag and other kinds of waste, Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) official Guo Jing told a press conference. Imported solid waste, some of which had been useful as raw materials in the past, has caused damage to the country's environment and public health, said Guo, who is in charge of international cooperation at the MEP.
