Australian city of Cairns secures direct flights to China -- Australia's tropical north is celebrating a tourism windfall on July 3, with the announcement that China Southern Airlines will operate three flights per week direct from Guangzhou to Cairns.
"In the first year we expect these flights to bring more than 33,000 Chinese visitors to Tropical North Queensland, which in turn flows on to the local economy and supports jobs across the region," Queensland State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

China Southern Airlines launch new air route to Irkutsk -- China Southern Airlines announced on June 28 that a new air route from northeast China's Harbin to Irkutsk will begin services in July.
From July 16, the flight will depart every Sunday. It leaves Harbin at 5:25 p.m. and arrive in Irkutsk around 8 p.m. The return flight will depart at 9:15 p.m. and arrive in Harbin at 11:55 p.m. local time.
Chinese firm wins tender to expand Kenya's key road -- A Chinese firm has been awarded a contract to expand a 9.8-kilometer stretch of road in the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenyan authorities said on July 4.
The Kenyan Urban Roads Authority (KURA) signed the deal, worth about 20 million U.S. dollars, with the China Qinjian International Group for the dualling of a stretch of the road from Dagoretti Corner to Karen Shopping Center.
