PARIS, June 18 (Xinhua Silk Road) -- The 6th China-France Cross-border E-commerce Forum kicked off in Paris, France, highlighting development trends of digital trade and innovative opportunities in cross-border e-commerce.
Government representatives, industry experts, and platform enterprises from China and France participated in the forum, discussing issues focusing on brand globalization, artificial intelligence, and logistics supply chains.
In the digital economy era, cross-border e-commerce represents an important innovation in the development of international trade and an important platform for exchanges and cooperation among different countries and regions, said Shi Shaojing, minister counselor at the Chinese embassy in France, when delivering her speech at the forum.
For China-France and China-Europe relations, cross-border e-commerce is not only a mode of trade, but also a bridge connecting markets, industries, and peoples. The economies of China and Europe, and of China and France, are highly complementary, and have broad common interests and enormous cooperation potential in areas such as green development, the digital economy, high-end manufacturing, and consumption upgrading, said Shi.
She expressed the hope that enterprises from both sides would fully leverage their respective strengths, deepen cooperation in industrial chains, supply chains, and innovation chains, jointly explore markets, create value, and share development outcomes, with a view to further expanding mutual benefits.
Gilles-Henry Garault, vice president of the Society For The Encouragement of National Industry in France and former French ambassador to Nepal, said that French industry had previously lagged behind a little in terms of industrial and commercial processes and digitalization.
Cross-border e-commerce has played the role of an accelerator in the industry, placing higher demand for real-time logistics, automatic translation, product recommendation, anti-counterfeiting, smart customs, and intelligent financial risk control systems, said Garault, stressing that the improvement of efficiency in the above aspects now depends highly on artificial intelligence.
Garault acknowledged that China has a certain leading edge in this regard, hoping that in the future, France's regulatory rigor can be further organically combined with the responsiveness, adaptability, AI advantages, and innovative solutions of the Chinese market, so as to create a shared model.
Mao Xiayun, general manager of business development at JINGDONG Cross-border, JD.com, Inc., said that despite unstable factors in the global trade environment, China's vast market means more opportunities and potential.
Company data show that French brands continue to perform strongly on JD's platform, with some categories seeing significant growth in performance, indicating a solid consumer base and growth potential, said Mao.
While building a solid digital and logistics foundation, JD is also committed to helping more French brands gain new growth opportunities in China through specific measures such as strengthening the French national pavilion, cooperating with century-old heritage brands, and introducing emerging brands.
The enterprises and institutions participating in the forum cover the entire cross-border e-commerce industrial chains, encompassing diverse fields such as retail platforms, B2B trade, postal logistics, cross‑border payments, investment and financing, and technology services.
Compared with previous editions, this year's forum added a cross-border e-commerce talent recruitment fair section, helping the industry gain strong talent support. (Contributed by Li Wenxin, edited by Li Xueqing with Xinhua Silk Road, lixueqing@xinhua.org)
