PARIS, April 8 (Xinhua Silk Road) -- China has made significant progress in sustainable development, said experts at "China Country Meetup & Showcase: Climate & Circular Industry Solutions", a side event of ChangeNOW 2026 held recently at the Grand Palais in Paris.
According to Rose-May Lucotte, co-founder of ChangeNOW, China has made impressive progress in sustainability, with a giant ecosystem of start-ups, entrepreneurs, innovators, who were "vibrant, forward-looking and increasingly influential on the global scale". And she hoped that this kind of event could build bridges to strengthen links with China, while helping generate synergies that can have a global impact.
"Green transition is not a cost, but a new engine of growth," said Li Wenguo, vice representative general of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) in France, adding that greater emphasis should be placed on entrepreneurship.
"Enterprises should continuously advance technological business model and application innovation, particularly in green, low-carbon and digital transformation to build new competitive advantages and sustain industrial upbringing," Li said.
Camille Bos, international projects manager at the United Nations Global Compact, believed that China had made significant progress in fostering transparency and synergy within global supply chains.
"Last year, we organized a meetup with a dozen of Chinese companies in our Paris office. I could tell that there's quite a strong dynamic between China, France, and Europe when it comes to progressing on the Sustainable Development Goals," she said.
"We have noticed that over the past two years, China seems to be taking the lead in sustainability, with big strides in eco-design, recyclability, reversibility of assembly, and more," said Henri Cuin, co-founder of Terraquota, an ESG strategy consulting company based in Europe, adding that nowadays, China has adopted many strict sustainability reporting rules for companies. With the pace of China's development on environmental values, he could see Chinese green products have a better image among global consumers in the very near future.
ChangeNOW, one of the world's largest summits dedicated to sustainability innovation, has brought together over 40,000 participants from 140 countries, showcasing 1,000 ready-to-scale solutions this year. The side event was hosted by GREENEXT, a Chinese service platform supporting sustainability-related events.
