ROME, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Florence, the Cradle of the Renaissance, has enjoyed closer economic and cultural ties with China in recent years, said Jacopo Vicini, deputy mayor for economic development, tourism, events and congresses for Florence, Italy, in a recent written interview with Xinhua.
According to Vicini, the city has built enduring partnerships with several Chinese cities, including sister city Nanjing and partner city Ningbo. These relationships have been reinforced over time through cultural, institutional, and economic exchanges, official visits, and reciprocal delegations.
In recent years, Florence has also hosted numerous Chinese institutional, diplomatic, and government delegations, maintaining close ties with local Chinese consular authorities, Vicini added.
In addition to these historical partnerships, Florence has expanded cooperation with many cities such as Shanghai and Qingdao, fostering exchanges in technology, fashion, design, traditional Chinese medicine, food, and culture, he said, adding that Florence also collaborates with Chinese cultural organizations based in Florence, including the Sino-Italian Design Exchange Center, the Confucius Institute, and Zhong Art International.
Vicini described the Chinese market as complex yet rich with opportunities, particularly for Florentine and Tuscan enterprises in fashion, design, luxury goods, culture, and high-quality agri-food products.
He stressed that successful cooperation should be grounded in mutual respect, excellence, and long-term partnerships, generating tangible benefits for both sides.
Regarding the coming 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE), Vicini said the event serves as a vital platform for showcasing local excellence and fostering dialogue.
"Seeing Florence brands present their creativity and craftsmanship at the CIIE makes us proud. Many partnerships made here can evolve into tangible projects," he said.
Looking ahead, Florence sees significant potential for collaboration with China in technological innovation, cultural and creative industries, higher education, tourism, and agri-food. "Engaging with the globalization process championed by China allows us to adopt an international perspective, embrace openness, and fully recognize our potential," Vicini added.
