BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Center of Agro-product Safety and Quality with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently announced the second batch of "national famous, special and high-quality new agricultural products" for 2025, with Shiguai corns, Guyang astragalus pieces, Tumd Right Banner plums and Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner eggs of Baotou in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region included.
So far, 72 products in Baotou have been included in the list, covering eight banners, counties and districts, demonstrating the strength of Baotou's agricultural brands, as well as the transformation of local characteristic industries to "brand empowerment" under the background of the rural revitalization strategy.
Baotou boasts many special agricultural products which lacked market recognition in the past. To solve the problem, the city has launched the model of "precise positioning + differentiated development" with focus on quality and brand building, promoting the branding and large-scale development of these products.
To ensure high quality of the special agricultural products, Baotou has established a full-chain control system with standards for production, supervision of processes, and traceability of quality.
It promotes the "enterprise + cooperative + farmer" model, providing uniformly seedlings, technical guidance, and purchase standards, and introducing intelligent breeding equipment to monitor the production environment in real time, and actively fosters certification of green food, organic agricultural products, and geographical indications.
It also organizes relevant enterprises to participate in various exhibitions, making the "Baotou flavor" reach more consumers through on-site displays, tasting experiences, live-streaming sales and other forms, and establishes sales networks of "production base + supermarket + e-commerce platform" to expand market channels.
Through brand empowerment, Shiguai corns sell well, and the astragalus industry in Guyang has formed a scale of 2 billion yuan, driving the development of 29 processing enterprises and the employment of 45,000 people across the entire chain in the past three years.
Besides, industrial integration has given rise to new business models. Tumd Right Banner is developing rural tourism around the plum industry, while Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner relies on its grassland ecology to create an "egg + cultural tourism" experience project.
More profoundly, the development of special agricultural products has promoted the modernization transformation of local agriculture, built a full industry chain system, and injected technological strength and market vitality into traditional agriculture.
