MOSCOW, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese company CITIC Construction has officially kicked off reconstruction of a 75-kilometer section of the Pungon-Namangan highway in Uzbekistan, with the project valued 246 million U.S. dollars, said Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov recently.
It is learned that the section under reconstruction is part of the 4P 112 Fergana Ring Road. Currently operating as a two-lane route, the section has long been plagued by severe traffic congestion and frequent accidents due to limited traffic capacity, becoming a key bottleneck affecting smooth regional transportation.
"This is one of the most challenging road sections in the Fergana Valley," Makhkamov stated during the interview.
According to the reconstruction plan, the section will be expanded into a four-lane concrete highway, with the simultaneous construction of 34 bridges and 22 pedestrian crossings.
Implemented under the F+EPC (Financing, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model, the project is expected to quadruple the road's capacity upon completion.
Local administration pointed out that the implementation of the project will greatly reduce the incidence of traffic accidents on the section and is of great significance for strengthening regional connectivity and promoting local economic and social development.
CITIC Construction, a subsidiary of the CITIC Group, is a major Chinese engineering and construction company with a global footprint in infrastructure projects across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
