MILAN, Jul 31 (Class Editori) — China's green transition has continued to drive the development of renewable energy, which accounted for 91.5% of the total newly installed capacity in the first half of 2025, according to official data from Beijing.
The country's new renewable energy installed capacity totaled 268 million kilowatts from January to June, nearly doubling compared to the same period last year, as reported by Xinhua, citing the National Energy Administration (NEA).
By the end of June, China's cumulative installed renewable energy capacity reached 2.16 billion kilowatts, an increase of 30.6% from the previous year, representing 59.2% of the country's total installed electricity capacity.
Renewable energy generation reached a new record, accounting for 39.7% of the country's total electricity production in the first half of the year. This figure surpassed the combined consumption of the service sector and residential use, explained Pan Huimin, an official from the NEA.
From January to June, China's renewable energy production increased by 15.6% year-on-year, reaching 1,800 billion kWh, according to NEA data.
All of this is part of the country's accelerated transition towards green and low-carbon development.
Data also showed that by the end of June, the country had installed 16.1 million electric vehicle charging stations nationwide, with over 97% of counties equipped with charging infrastructure to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles. (All rights reserved)
