MANILA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A cultural presentation celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Philippines was held here on Monday.
The evening event, which also commemorated Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day, was co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Associations of the Philippines Foundation, Inc.
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian said in his speech that at this meaningful moment, the two sides must stay true to the original vision that guided the establishment of diplomatic relations.
It is essential to heed the voices of the people, remove disruption, and work together to bring bilateral ties onto the path of sound and steady development, Huang said.
Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte said in a video speech, "As we mark another chapter of meaningful cooperation in the Filipino-Chinese community, I trust that our enduring ties of friendship will continue to serve the greater good of our people."
For her part, incoming Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro said, "It is an honor to join you this evening as we mark five decades of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Philippines and the People's Republic of China, signifying the enduring spirit of friendship and dialogue that has sustained our nations through changing times."
The cultural event was attended by more than 1,000 people.
China and the Philippines established diplomatic relations on June 9, 1975.
