NAIROBI, March 31 (Xinhua) -- A promotional conference for the fourth Global Digital Trade Expo was held in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on Monday, with participants including senior government officials, diplomats and business executives.
The event, hosted by the Hangzhou municipal government, also sought to promote the African Digital Trade Day, which will be a highlight of the expo.
Zhou Zhencheng, minister counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, said the expo, slated for Sept. 25-29 in Hangzhou, the capital of China's Zhejiang Province, offers an opportunity for strengthening China-Africa cooperation across e-commerce and digital trade.
He noted the great potential for Kenya and China to deepen cooperation in technologies, particularly in telecommunications and smart cities.
John Tanui, principal secretary in Kenya's Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, said his country plans to leverage the event in China to unlock the potential of the digital space to create employment opportunities.
Tanui added that Kenya is keen to learn from China's experiences in digital trade, as the sector plays a crucial role in emerging economies such as Kenya.
John Mwendwa, chief executive officer of Kenya Investment Authority, said the government has created a conducive environment for foreign investors to establish a presence in the country's digital sector and intends to showcase investment opportunities at the upcoming expo.
Wang Yongfang, director of Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce, said the Global Digital Trade Expo, one of China's national fairs with a global outreach, will exhibit the latest findings, application scenarios and cutting edge technologies in the global digital trade sector. More than 100 international dignitaries and diplomats are expected to attend the event.
