BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- When manufacturing economy demanded more and more power, eastern China-located Jiangsu Province managed to shore up local installed power generation capacity to 204.09 million kW by the end of 2024.
Last year, the provincial installed power generation capacity rose 14.1 percent on year, serving as a reliable barometer for the coastal manufacturing powerhouse whose economy grew 5.8 percent to 13.7 trillion yuan.
Since 2006, Jiangsu's gross installed power generation capacity has been surging, exceeding 50 million kW, 100 million kW and 150 million kW subsequently and the province took merely three years to grow the figure from 150 million kW to 200 million kW.
Increasing installed power generation capacity effectively satisfied the whole province's power need and the local manufacturing industries also pillared up continuous growth in power supply capacity, said Gao Zhengping, deputy head with the development department of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd.
In 2024, Jiangsu's "three new manufacturing stars", namely, electric vehicles, lithium batteries and PV products, remained vibrant and their annual electricity consumption expanded 12.5 percent, 20.1 percent and 7.4 percent respectively.
All of these splashy developments are inseparable from its accelerating green transition, which attaches importance to clean and new energy, according to Gao, adding that the province is now crafting a new type of power system to facilitate grid connection of power generated through new energy.
By the end of 2024, installed wind and PV power capacity of Jiangsu grossed 84.86 million kW, accounting for about 41.6 percent of the provincial aggregate and up 18.7 percentage points from the end of 2020.
